Welcome to Savvy Tomatoes. My name is Veronica. I'm a wife, mother, homemaker, bookworm, fan of 80's music and a backyard gardener.
I love family time, traveling, and eating good ramen. I like to listen to the sounds of the ocean and the feel of the warm sun on my face. When I'm home I like to look up at the night sky while I lay on my trampoline and I enjoy walking to my garden each morning.
I'm allergic to ANTS! The anaphylactic shock kind of allergic. This always proves as a challenge because ants are always in the garden.
I've been around gardening all my life. Some of my earliest memories are of shelling purple hull peas with my grandmother. I grew up watching my Dad garden and I continue to be jealous of his gardening talents. His plants always grow faster than mine and produce a harvest faster than mine. Of course it works out because he shares with me and then I share with him. He finds great joy in growing too much and sharing his bounty with other families. I am pretty sure it brings a smile to those he shares with too. I am always hearing their stories of how they cooked the vegetables and what he brought for them.
When I got married I planted one tomato plant in a 3' x 3' raised garden bed. That first year was just the beginning. I kept learning and my garden kept growing. My current garden methods incorporate many of the tips and techniques that I've learned.
I've taken classes from the master gardeners in my area. I love to read and learn about gardening. I love looking over seed catalogs and finding new vegetables to try growing.
A few years ago, I watched a video of Ruth Stout. She said, "I'm sorry to make you jealous, but I haven't been in a super market for at least fourteen years." I didn't get jealous but I did get inspired. My current gardening goal is to feed my family of four year round. I have more gardens to build, more methods to learn, and more vegetable to grow but I am headed in the right direction.
As I expand my garden, I hope to share my progress and what I learn here on this website. I know everyone reading will have different goals for their garden. My hope is that I can provide the information and motivation to help you reach your own garden goals. I also want to inspire you to try new things in the garden.
My garden is my happy place and that is why I am here sharing with you. I hope you will find joy in gardening as well.
